Questions of whether a black hole can be a character aside, it's tough when a character has one main feature. That's why really off-the-wall characters tend to provoke better responses: They give you plenty of weird options to take.
OTOH, you could look at an apparently straightforward character as a chance to come up with a completely out-of-left-field response. A character that seems limiting might provoke an even better response because it forces you to be very predictable or very creative.
Regarding the "character" question: My vote is to not get too picky about that kind of thing, and trust people to follow the guidelines. It makes for a better atmosphere. If you don't like a certain character, somebody will post a response soon enough.

Bayou Code of Honor
Make sure to highlight your character's superpower.
Focus your superhero's power on the previous champion's power as much as possible.
Wordplay is strongly encouraged.
The early bird gets the worm. If you're prepping a hero and someone beats you to the punch, too bad, so sad. It happens. Feel free to link to your alternate hero in the comments, though!
If using a pre-existing character or hero, try to use it in a novel or creative way.
If your reference is unusually obscure, feel free to include an explanatory link.
To avoid repetition, look through earlier entries.

okay...help me out.
Aren't we dealing with characters here, and not just nouns.
Can you really consider Blackout and Blackhole characters?
Blackout could be a guy. It makes sense that you couldn't see him in total blackness.
I should be asking: Can WE really consider Blackout and Blackhole characters?
With Blackhole, I see two options...(1) create a character that thwarts the Blackhole, or (2) find some anti-depressant pills and post those.
To take get to the heart of the challenge, I must take the first option...opting for the second, weakens the battle and requires less creativity....

Yeah ok, Blackout wasn't my finest work ever. No more nouns from me.
Aw shucks else, I liked it!
For what it's worth, I enjoyed Blackout as well.
